Experiencing Everyone

/ Posted By Dav McKenzie

All this week we’ve had 14 year old Anna Lamb in the studio on a work experience placement with our design team.

Unlike my own work experience which was a tedious stint in a stuffy HR office - we’ve not had Anna making the teas or doing our donkey work -  instead we’ve thrown her in at the deep end! Anna has been working on her very own web design project and has been involved in wireframing, artworking and researching it under the watchful eyes of our senior designers.

Earlier on today, I caught up with Anna to reflect on what she made of her week with us.

In a few words could you sum up what you have learnt working with Everyone this week?

It’s been good to be in an office environment where I can work independently and not needing to be told what to do, like school. I’ve enjoyed managing my own work and getting a feel for agency life.

What skills will you take away with you and use?

I’ve got a better understanding of how design agencies work. I’ve learned how to get to grips with Photoshop and learning about some of the thinking behind web design. Again, I’ve really enjoyed being in an office and planning my own day.

What would you like to be doing in 5 years time?

I’d like to be in university, doing a course that I’d like. I’m not exactly sure what I’d like to do yet but perhaps something art or design based.

What do you want to do when you leave school?

I’ve not totally made up my mind yet but I’d like to be happy and in a job that I enjoy.

What or who inspires you?

My family and friends are a big inspiration and a great source of support. In terms of design, I really like modern art. For my own project work that I’ve been doing as part of my work experience placement I’ve been doing some minimalist web design.

If you could be anyone for a day who would it be and why?

I don’t know if I can think of anyone in particular but I’d maybe like to be someone like Nicola Sturgeon to get a feel for what it’s like to make big, important decisions and be admired by a lot of people because of what she does. Or perhaps someone like a music star to get to play to big crowds and see what that's like.

What did you enjoy about working for the week in the heart of Glasgow Merchant City?

I really like the buzz of the city - it’s always busy and there’s always something going on.

We’ve really enjoyed having Anna around this week and we’ve been really impressed with her design skills and ability to pick up Photoshop like a pro!  We hope that Anna’s week with us has given her an insight into agency life and what she could expect from a career in the design industry.
