Mens Fashion Trends - Spring / Summer 2014

/ Posted By Hilary Laing

This week our resident fashionista and Social Media executive Hilary Laing dishes out some top tips for your wardrobe in 2014.

S/S 14 Mens collections have left the catwalk, but what trends do you take from them? Well here are just a few that we think will help you on your way for that perfect summer wardrobe.

Coloured Raincoats
Yip, that Fishermans Friend look will be your companion on those wet summer days. Best worn with a contrasting slimline trouser. And while you're at it, why not throw in a cable knitwear piece too?

In any hue this colour is key. Just get investing in this shade and team up with a trouser, shirt, tie and knit all in different shades. A striking look and one not to be afraid in pursuing!

Varsity/Letter Jacket
A key casual outerwear piece, great teamed up with a formal trouser and dark leather shoe. You may have something like this already in your wardrobe from your uni / college days, so give it an airing and get wearing!

Floral Patterns
OK, so this trend is not to everyone's taste and it is one that is not too easy to pull off, so don't go all-out floral and scare your clients in the meeting room! Elegantly soften the floral shirt by layering it under a sweater.

Statement Trousers
I'm talking stripes. Yip scary you may say, but when you partner these bad boys with, say, a simple shirt and a crewneck, that's a strong, sharp look. Just be careful here of your footwear - try to stay away from leather shoes as you don't want to look dandyish!

Biker Jackets
A great investment piece that you will have for years, so dig a wee bitty deeper in those pockets when splashing your cash on this one. Styling this biker number with a pair of smart / suit trousers for the office and a crisp shirt will sure get the heads turning.

Stripes are easy to wear and work on most guys. Take the plunge and be a wee bit more adventurous with your colour stripe combinations. Block stripes offer a fresh and bold take for S/S, helping breathe life into your warm-weather wardrobe, while subtly separating your look from the crowd.

Whatever you decide to buy, make sure you try it on! Get it in that changing room and have fun with clothes. Don't be afraid of trying something new. New is good and it makes you feel good too. Go get treating yourself this summer.
