It's been a busy old year, here at Everyone. So much so that over the year we've actually now doubled our development team. We were recently delighted to welcome another talented PHP developer into our studio in the form of Andy Mclaughlan - which also doubles our number of people called Andrew in the studio too! As usual, I caught up with Andy to find out what makes him tick and what he hopes to achieve in his new role with us.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Logical, open minded, Maverick
What made you want to come and work for Everyone?
After having worked mainly as back end php developer for the last few years I felt it was time to broaden my skill set and move to company where I could get involved projects that use the latest front-end technology stacks. Everyone has an impressive portfolio and seems like just the company to let me do that.
What 3 things could you not live without?
Food, water and Oxygen...only kidding. The internet, a mobile phone and digestive biscuits.
Do you have a coding hero?
Tim Berners-Lee the creator of the Web’s bedrock software standards. When asked what his biggest regret in life was, he said the double slash “//” after the “http:” in Web addresses. It’s just not necessary he says. Look at all the paper and trees, he said, that could have been saved if people had not had to write or type out those slashes on paper over the years — not to mention the human labor and time spent typing those two keystrokes countless millions of times.
What 3 people would you have round for a dinner party (dead or alive) and why?
Hmm Alexander the Great, Nikola Tesla and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Alexander the Great because I’ve always been interested in history and the various empires that have come and gone. Nikola Tesla well he was just pure genius. There are a lot of inspirational stories out there however, some make for a fascinating story - Arnold Schwarzenegger for one.
What’s your favourite website website/app?
I don’t have any particular favourite web site or app but I tend to spend a lot of time on sites that foster discussion and collaboration and help disseminate information such as community forums or sites like Reddit or Quora where you can find information and discussion about almost any subject. To me this is what the internet was meant for.
Do you have a party piece or any hidden talents?
I can sleep anywhere anytime in just about any position.
Even though we've doubled our development team - we're still on the hunt for even more talented developers. If you fancy joining our team and becoming involved in a whole host of innovative and exciting projects we'd love to hear from you. Send over your details to firstname.lastname@example.org. (No recruiters please!)
